On the weekend of June 14/15 it was time for the third round of the Dutch Nationals at the famous MACH track at Heemstede. On Sunday morning we had three qualification runs. The qualification runs were going very well for me and I set almost the same time in all runs. Teammate Daan Jacobs â“ who was again very fast â“ had some radio problems in the first run but got a good time in the second run... only 0.1 sec behind me. But in the third run, Pedro Rombouts (NT1) had a good and clear run and set a better time. So after the qualification runs we (Team XRAY) were happy to see that the first three spots where all NT1 cars!

National Final:
After the start, within the first few laps I was able to get a gap of a few seconds on the rest of the field because they were fighting for position. Also in the first laps, Daan Jacobs overtook Pedro Rombouts so now it was Team XRAY who lead the pack. But after 14 laps problems started for Daan Jacobs as his engine flamed out. It took a while before he got back onto the track. A bad glowplug was the culprit, which was too bad because we were both in really good positions to take our NT1 cars home to the podium. The rest of the race was not very exciting. I got 1 lap ahead of the 2nd place driver and took my first win in the Nationals of this year, after a hard start of the season.

Nomac Class Final:
The Nomac class was a lot more exiting in the last few minutes then the National class. The start of the race was a bit disordered and some drivers had a early start, also XRAY driver Jurmen Etnal who started in front had a early start but there were a lot of misunderstandings and after a couple of minutes Jurmen was disqualified and also XRAY driver Ricardo van Dam dropped back in the field because of the chaotic start. But Ricardo van Dam fought back to 2nd place followed by Ingeborg Gommers (NT1), the only girl on the grid. The last 3 seconds of the race became real tense when the battery pack of leader Ricardo Hofmeijer dumped. As a result, both XRAY drivers Ricardo van Dam and Ingeborg Gommers overtook the leader and took the first two spot in the race.
